A talk with Erich Pitcher, Associate Director of Research and Communication with Diversity & Cultural Engagement at Oregon State University

Drawing from their forthcoming book, in this talk Dr. Pitcher provides a rich, in-depth account of the lived experiences of 39 transgender or trans* academics. As a study participant described, trans* voices are often out of place at best–or worse–completely discounted in academe, a betwixt place. In not fitting a particular mold, trans* academics experience a variety of adverse events including microaggressions, outright hostility, and exclusion. In finding a place for trans* academics, Erich will offer an urgent and strategic call to transforming the academy that engages our radical imagination and keeps critical hope alive. Co-sponsored by Ethics & the Common Good, Queer Studies and Office of Diversity and Multicultural Education.
