New tool! SureChem – a patent database of 15 million chemical structures – goes public

Free for you to use! SureChem’s 15 million patented chemical structures – extracted via data-mining software – allows anyone to search and browse. Originally a 4-Terabyte commercial database, it was recently transferred to the European Bioinformatics Institute (EBI), which worked to make the data open. This is especially important for those in chemistry and drug development/discovery – many of the resources available to chemists are prohibitively expensive. This is a big step towards providing accessibility to all types of data!20131211_sampleSearchSureChem

Read more about the announcement over at Nature News Blog, or start exploring all that beautiful data over on the SureChem website.

If you want to use this resource in the future, you’ll find a link in my Chemistry LibGuide – look under the web resources tab!

Happy searching, and as always, if you have any questions, ask your librarian!
