What says “fall” in New England more than wandering through an apple orchard, picking an array of delicious apples, and taking them home to make homemade applesauce?
But who says you have to stick to that same old standard recipe year after year? Check out this great applesauce variation, courtesy of Associate IT Director Sarah Ryder, using baby ginger and turmeric from the Hampshire College Farm.
Sarah is a terrific cook, and this quick and easy recipe is both tasty and nutritious. Apples are high in Vitamin C, fiber, and anti-oxidants, and both ginger and turmeric are anti-inflammatory and help to fight the common cold. Both the baby ginger and turmeric are available now from the farm; just email nhanson@hampshire.edu or see the attached posters for more details.
So, whether you are feeling under the weather or just looking for a fresh and delicious twist on an old standby, give this ginger turmeric applesauce recipe a try and let us know what you think! Thanks, Sarah!
