Bringing Back Banned Books
Last month, the library pulled and purchased books that have been banned and/or challenged across history as well as books about censorship and intellectual freedom. This Display is meant to bring attention to and help combat book banning. Selections were made via student input, staff input, and research on the history of book banning.
Titles on display include: Laura Dean Keeps Breaking Up With Me by Mariko Tamaki (banned for LGBTQ themes), Carrie by Stephen King (banned for violence, sex, and “negative views of religion”), and Charlotte’s Web By E.B. White (banned for themes of death, and because having animals speaking was viewed as “blasphemous”,) and more! All of these books are available for checkout at the library.
