Wandering book artists here tomorrow!
California book artists Peter and Donna Thomas will be visiting Hampshire College in their wandering bookmobile just outside of the Harold Johnson Library tomorrow, Tuesday, September 9th from 10:30- noon. Hope you will stop by!
These book artists from Santa Cruz, California have a cousin who studied art at Hampshire College in the 80s. They have been traveling across the country, heading our way, and are excited to arrive at Hampshire tomorrow.
Donna and Peter make paper and print and bind books. They make both edition and one-of-a-kind books that combine the precision of the fine press aesthetic with the structural creativity found in contemporary artists’ books. Current books available are shown on their web site: http://www2.cruzio.com/~peteranddonna/)
Between 2009 and 2013, they made two cross-country road trips, traveling with their painted wagon trailer, as “Wandering Book Artists.” The wagon functions as their home, a physical artwork, and more esoterically, as a metaphoric embodiment of their ideas about the changing nature of the physical book in the digital age. You can read their blog documenting their travels as wandering book artists.
