This Thursday! Artist/Curator Alhena Katsof on expanded curatorial practice

Thursday, November 21, at 5:30pm, please join us for Alhena Katsof’s talk: “Burials and Becomings: Curating in the Expanded Field.” The talk will be in Emily Dickinson Hall 2.

In a lecture that explores the notion of expanded curatorial practice, Alhena Katsof will discuss the burial of the Berlin Dada archives in Hannah Hoch’s garden during WWII, as well as her work with the performative research group Public Movement (IL), who investigate new relationships between art and politics. Katsof will weave these two threads throughout a presentation of recent projects and exhibitions, which move between artistic and curatorial production.

Alhena Katsof is a curator based in New York, where she has organized exhibitions and events with Regina Rex, Shoot the Lobster and Lucie Fontaine at Marianne Boesky Gallery. She co-curated, with Dean Daderko, a solo exhibition by the artist (and Hampshire graduate) MPA at Leo Koenig, Inc. as part of Performa 2011. Katsof has worked closely with many artists, including the research and design studio Metahaven (NL), and on curatorial teams at MoMA PS1, the New Museum, and e-flux, all in New York City. In 2010 she was a participant in de Appel Curatorial Program in Amsterdam, prior to which she received an MFA from the Glasgow School of Art. In Scotland, she organized exhibitions under the pseudonym A.Vermin from 2006-2009. Katsof collaborates with Public Movement (IL), whom she joined at IASPIS (Stockholm, Sweden) and SITAC XI (Mexico City, Mexico).
