Alumx Spotlight from the Archives: Dr. Vanessa Northington Gamble
As we continue to persevere through the global pandemic, and rely on scientists and medical professionals to guide us during this time, we’d like to take the opportunity to highlight one of our own medical giants, Vanessa Northington Gamble, M.D., Ph.D. Dr. Gamble is a member of the first entering class at Hampshire (70F), and throughout her career she has worked to promote equity and justice in medicine and public health. As a physician, scholar, and activist, Dr. Gamble is an internationally recognized expert on the history of American medicine, racial and ethnic disparities in health and health care, public health ethics, and bioethics. Notably, she chaired the Tuskegee Syphilis Study Legacy Committee in 1997. Currently, Dr. Gamble is University Professor of Medical Humanities at The George Washington University, and is the first woman and African American to hold this prestigious, endowed faculty position.
