New cool stuff in the Bradford Room!
We have recently acquired some new (old) cool stuff that is in the Bradford Room, our Special Collections space on the 2nd floor. Steve Daiber of Red Trillium Press taught the first Book Arts classes at Hampshire College in 1999 and 2000, and he recently donated 17 student projects from those classes.
And, I just purchased a new artist book by Candace Hicks, Common Threads, Vol. XL– it is a hand-embroidered unique canvas book, which you can see from the cover mimics the form and design of dime-store “composition” books. From the Booklyn (booklyn.org) web site: “The books themselves, self-consciously hand-made objects, are a record of coincidental occurrences generally gleaned from reading or mundane events. The use of embroidery thread allows for the production of the text and image with the same mark and material, to make the text, image and substance of the book inseparable.”
Remember to check out the Tumblr of Cool Stuff in the Bradford Room, and please make an appointment with me anytime to see any of it. I love to take these treasures out of the locked cabinets and show them off!
