Come hear about Hampshire’s Healthy Food Transition and partnership with dining service provider Bon Appetit Management Company. Nicole Tocco, Senior Fellow for Bon Appetit Management Company Foundation and Jess Marsh Wissemann, Hampshire’s Food, Farm and Sustainability Coordinator will lead a discussion on campus dining.

Topics of discussion will include Bon Appetit’s partnership with the Hampshire College Farm, sourcing local food, strategies for sustainability in dining hall operations, and whatever YOU bring to the table! Dessert reception provided for all attendees.

Jess Marsh Wissemann is the Food, Farm, and Sustainability Program Coordinator at Hampshire College. Her passion for farming has deep roots- from early years spent in her grandfather's garden picking peas and strawberries to managing the CSA at her husband's historic family farm in Sunderland and serving on the board of the Amherst Farmers' Market. She is happy for the opportunity to share her love of food and farming with the students at Hampshire College.

Food, Farm, and Sustainability

The Hampshire College Farm and its Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) programs provide our campus and community members with local, sustainably-raised produce and meat, as well as rich educational opportunities.

Begun in the late 1970s for on-campus research purposes, the farm expanded its scope in 1992 when a small group of students began a 30-member organic vegetable CSA as a Division III project. The Hampshire College Farm now produces over 75,000 pounds of organic produce on 15 acres of land, with an additional 65 acres in pasture and livestock production.

The farm, however, still maintains its academic roots. Whether exploring sustainable agriculture, animal behavior, or local food systems, Hampshire College students and faculty use the farm as a hub for investigating the intellectual, political, and scientific issues surrounding food production. Of course, they eat well while doing so!
