The Star Sirius

Astronomy, Miracles / Ijaz

In this Harun Yahya group video clip (perhaps from “Miracles of the Quran”), presents the double star system Sirius as having been referenced in the Qurʾān.

Some of the material is more numerology than astronomy, although based on astronomical observations.

Evaluation:

The Qurʾānic material here needs to be understood with caution; interpreting Surah 53.9 as referring to the Sirius star system is not within the bounds of what Muslims have historically understood as acceptable interpretation.

The scientific material is generally accurate although a little outdated.  It is being used to support a numerological miracle in the Qurʾān, which is generally understood by scientists as a miss-application of the scientific method.  The claims made in this video should be verified with additional sources.

The historical information about Sirius as an ancient Egyptian god is accurate, and likely what verse 53.49 actually refers to rather than the star system.
