Geology, Miracles / I'jaz

Musa Adnan

This video of animated text has Musa Adnan’s voiceover, reading the same words.  The video, addressed to a Muslim audience, says that the center of the Earth is made of iron.  Adnan goes on to note that the 57th chapter of the Qurʾān, which is made up of 114 chapters, is entitled al-Ḥadīd, [the] Iron.  Since 57=114/2, he suggests it’s the center, making it a miracle, a form of iʿjāz.

The remainder of the video is more conversational, with multiple uses of collectivizing identifications (“we Muslims”) and a few grammatical errors (watch those apostrophes).

The video was produced by Green Bird Media Productions.  It is undated, but the date it was originally posted to Musa Adnan’s YouTube page was 21 Feb 2013.  Both Musa Adnan and InkofKnowledge, on whose page we found the video, are based in the United Kingdom (Adnan seems to be located in London).

Evaluation:

The material on Islam is within the bounds of what Muslims have historically understood as acceptable.

Contemporary scientists do agree that the center of the Earth is probably made of iron.  The use of numerology to demonstrate it would not be understood as an appropriate use of science by them, however.

There is insufficient historical material on which to base an evaluation.
