Evolution
Zaid Kasim Mohammad Ghazzawi
In this short video, Zaid Ghazzawi suggests that evolution can be disproven because the proteins “excreted” by a cell “know” to arrange themselves as a hand in human beings. He suggests that because this protein arrangement is not under the control of genes and DNA (since it is outside the cell). He states that therefore, the genes and DNA do not contain the coding for the “shape of a creature”. Therefore creatures cannot pass their shape along from one generation to another, disproving (he says) a basic pillar of evolutionary theory.
The video does not contain any references to any scientific works or authors, other than the video blogger himself. There is no mention of the Qurʾān.
Evaluation:
The material on Islam is within the bounds of what Muslims have historically understood as acceptable.
The discussion of DNA and proteins does not correspond to contemporary scholarly understanding. Proteins like collagens “know where to go” based on reactions with other molecules. These systems are controlled by DNA.
There is insufficient historical material on which to base an evaluation.
About Zaid Kasim Mohammad Ghazzawi
Zaid Ghazzawi is an advocate for a new way of teaching and educating people using the Qurʾān.
Ghazzawi holds a Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering. He studied at the University of Surrey in the United Kingdom, receiving a Masters of Science and a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering in 2003 (LinkedIn shows the same four years for both his undergraduate and graduate work). Ghazzawi’s approach to education relies on finding direct solutions to life problems through applying the knowledge found in the Qurʾān. An example of this may be seen in his proposal for a TV program.
Ghazzawi is primarily known on video for his scripted video blogs in both English and Arabic. In addition, although he has not been active on the platform since 2012, Ghazzawi’s YouTube channel allegedly has hundreds of videos and around 39,000 subscribers. A collection of his written work can be found on his Scribd page.
The web site that is often advertised on his videos, www.quran-miracle.com, does not now (July 2015) work.
