Yes, the zine collection has finally moved down to the first floor of the library! The zines are now located in our new (to us) wooden bookshelf, which you can find between the Research Help & Media Services offices! Zines are boxed up in alphabetical order by title in lovely translucent plastic containers – which are also labeled to make it easier for you, the zine reader, to locate zines! However, we’re not done yet. Also coming soon:
Saiya Miller (who hosted a zine event here at Hampshire back in April) is returning to the Five Colleges tonight along with Liza Bley for a reading & discussion of Not Your Mother’s Meatloaf: A Sex Education Comic Book. It will be held from 4:30-6:00pm at the Five College Women’s Studies Research Center, located at 83 College St. at Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley. Below is more information about the event:
“Not Your Mother’s Meatloaf: A Sex Education Comic Book brings together a selection of comics by various artists addressing issues of sex and sexuality. The collection aims to provide a new approach to the way we teach about sexuality; a more accessible, interactive tool to help share knowledge about sex; one that demystifies the facts and speaks frankly about experiences whose lessons may fall into the grey areas. The comic format makes it possible for people to open up and talk about often embarrassing, sometimes even painful experiences in a way that is humorous and engaging.
You can go to the Five College Women’s Studies Research Center website for more information. They’ve apparently set up a live stream of the event, so check it out!
We’ve just processed a huge batch of zines that have been donated, including issues 1-5 of Not Your Mother’s Meatloaf. Saiya Miller, co-editor the zine, donated the zines after the zine workshop she hosted back in April here in the library, & they are now available for your perusal.
