THE PROJECT
Roberts Meadow Dam was built in 1895 in Leeds, MA. It is a 30-ft high dam originally constructed to supply water for the town of Northampton, MA. Due to failing infrastructure and for ecological restoration reasons, this dam was removed in the spring/summer of 2018.
FACULTY AND STUDENTS
- Chris Cianfrani, Assoc. Prof. of Hydrology
- Sarah Hews, Asst. Prof. of Math
RESEARCH QUESTIONS
Faculty and students will be assessing the stream system up stream and downstream for the impacts the dam removal will have on geomorphology and habitat within the system. This effort involves field work, modeling and use of physical stream models to predict the flow of sediment during removal of the dam.
