Research

I conduct interdisciplinary, applied research in the fields of water resources and ecological engineering. My research focuses on developing an understanding of watershed processes from both an ecological and engineering perspective as well as the ways in which we can use natural systems to improve water quality. Broadly this research falls into three categories: 1) ecological engineering practices to improve water quality;  2) urban impacts on stream systems; and 3) ecohydrology of small streams. Additionally, I conduct scholarly research on teaching and student learning in the sciences with specific focus on STEM learning and improving access and outcomes for women. I also co-direct the Collaborative Modeling Center at Hampshire College that fosters interdisciplinary research among students, faculty and staff.
