UTOPIA
|yo͞oˈtōpēə| noun
an imagined place or state of things in which everything is perfect.
In the context of HIDDEN TRUTHS: DISRUPTING UTOPIA, the utopia is an imagined place that encompasses the ideals of the society inhabiting it. Utopias are built upon nostalgia for the past, a critique of the present, and optimism for the future. Though the concept of a utopia is understood to be a perfect place, as the definition implies, imagined spaces can never exist. All canonical instances of utopia create a hierarchy among humans, and lead to systems of oppression whether inside or outside of the utopian society.
