How do composting toilets work?

Composting toilets enable buildings to significantly reduce or eliminate the amount of blackwater they produce. Because we use waterless composting toilets at the R.W. Kern Center, all of the wastewater produced by our building is greywater.

Join R.W. Kern Center Coordinator Claire Shillington on a tour of the digestive tract of our composting toilets. See how our waterless system breaks down human waste to create compost we’re hoping to use to enrich a new planter bed on our site.
