Waste and Rebellion

I’ve observed around in the Dinning Commons because we have Trash and compost bins, but there aren’t any recycling bins inside. It kind of disrupts me because plastic isn’t decomposable to even have it in the compost bin. There were so many plastic cups, straws, and small sauce containers in it which bothered me a bit.

Marine Life isn’t a Waste Site

The physical structure around waste infrastructure is the ocean in general because 1) it’s not considered a wasteland, and 2) people throw waste into the ocean putting wildlife in danger. Penguins getting caught by a soda can plastic thing that wraps around their necks or broken fishing nets getting caught by turtles and other creatures in the environment. The coral is dying due to climate change and other causes.

Individual Responsibility

Well, I recently had a security guard throw away a light stick that I had for almost 6 years now. Sadly, I couldn’t retrieve it because it was during a concert I went to. I didn’t take a photo because I was holding up the line and it really made me sad because it was the very 1st concert light stick I bought. So I cannot really answer this blog that well. They threw it away because apparently it wasn’t “allowed” but when I stepped in, I saw other people with your group’s light sticks which made me so down.

Shit

My everyday behaviors around shit reveal about our culture, history, or power relations making me think about what type of world we live in. Everyone knows that they can make a good decision that makes a huge difference for the world. In the world that we know today, it’s hard to understand and talk about colonialism and racial hierarchies. They’ll think “Oh, I’m more above your level now, I can do this and whatever I want to” which is an abuse of power. Yet, they can make a difference, they just want others to judge them.

Matter Out of Place

An object in our daily everyday life is paper, plastic, and food, which are typically considered as waste.

Mary Douglas’ conception of dirt helps us to understand why this is waste because we package our food in paper containers or containers made of styrofoam. We use plastic cups for our drinks and throw them out. We eat food, but we throw away food or leftover food which is considered as waste. This type of waste can be used for composting to feed our plants or trees the vitamins they need.

Buying Group Albums Makes me Happy

I have a friend who likes the same groups as I listen to and she got me an album which I still have and I am grateful to have a friend like her. Ever since that day, I had like a bit of an adrenaline-filled feeling of happiness. I thought that it was gonna be my first and last, but. was wrong. I started buying albums in mid-2018 and now I have about 10-ish albums that contain stickers, photo cards, photo albums, and some other goodies. Then I started buying merchandise like fan-made photo cards, blankets, stuffed toys, dolls, and some pillows. These items make me happy that I recently bought tickets to see one of the solo artists this October. Luckily I’m not buying as much as before because I’m managing my account pretty well so I think it was like a type of hoarding addiction at some point but not anymore. 🙂
