This is a challenging and exciting hear for us here at Hampshire, and there are a few things I’d like to share. Firstly, I want to make certain everyone understands that while the College at large is experiencing financial challenges the Library Media Labs is in the final year of a 3 year Quarter Million Dollar Grant provided by the Mellon Foundation! So make no mistake, everyone else is struggling for cash, but the Media Labs have New Computers, new 4K cameras (BMPC4K), New Software, even new systems (like our motion capture, facial capture animation system), all provided by funding from Mellon.
Also worth noting, the libraries hours will be reduced (due to the budget issues) so the LML will not be open at all on Fridays or Saturdays. We will only be open until 10pm Sun-Thu.
NOW THE FUN STUFF! – There are many tools that you may not think are something for you, but you’d be surprised! Among the things you can do here, puppetry, stop-motion animation- 2D and 3D animation, 3D printing, 3D scanning, VR game development, MotionCapture (now including face and hands), prop making, graphic art and design, comic book creation, music production, ADR for film, record Voice Over for documentary, Visual Effects for Film/Video, Game Design, Live Broadcast using our FULL 4K STUDIO, and of course Audio and Video Editing.
Among the tools available: Final Cut, Premiere, After Effects, Photoshop, Fusion, DaVinci, DragonFrame, iStopmotion, Mimo (for live broadcast), Moho (animation), Maya, Blender 2.8, Ableton Live, Max MSP, ProTools, Audition, DreamWeaver, AutoDesk Suite, Houdini, Z-Brush, Poser, Daz Studio, FrameForge, Celtx the list goes on and on.
The LML are available to ALL members of the Hampshire Community (some training may be required for certain equipment) Please come take a tour and get to know the tools we have made available for you!
