While COVID-19 took away the possibility of a in-person conference, the International Living Future Institute adapted with its virtual gathering of green builders. In all the uncertainty, there was a great amount of hope from participants. ILFI founder Jason F. McLennan proposed that this pandemic has underscored society’s need to adapt and improve to meet the current threats. The climate crisis may come back into the public eye as we learn lessons about preparedness from this virus.

The Kendeda fund posted their “7 takeaways from Living Future 2020”, including a quote from our own building manager, Sara Draper! Sara embodied this forward momentum, expressing her optimism about Sustainable Design going mainstream,

“Not only do we have the power to reduce the carbon footprint of buildings through smart material choices, we can actually create CARBON NEGATIVE buildings NOW. Even better, we can build these with products and materials that are already familiar to many builders, like cellulose, mineral wool, and structural timber. As we so often learn in sustainable design, it’s not always about awaiting the next revolutionary product (though many exist!), it’s about truly understanding the impact of design decisions so we can make better ones. We have all we need to do good, and that’s empowering.”
