Solar at Hampshire College

A map of Hampshire College with the following labels at locations that have solar panels: 2 solar fields, a solar canopy, the R.W. Kern Center, the Hitchcock Center, and the Hampshire College farm. A banner at the bottom of the image includes a simple shape of the R.W. Kern Center and reads: 100 Days of Building Solutions.

Hampshire College is taking big strides in two topics we’ve focused on so far: building electrification and solar energy.

Hampshire uses electricity generated from solar panels at the R.W. Kern Center (an all-electric building!), a solar canopy, the Hampshire College Farm and CSA, and 19 acres of solar fields. Hampshire’s goal in placing the two large solar fields is to meet 100% of their electricity demand with renewable energy. The Hitchcock Center for the Environment, another all-electric building powered by solar, also lives on Hampshire’s campus.
