How do solar powered generators work? | R.W. Kern Center

Photovoltaic (PV) cells, often made from silicon, absorb the sun’s energy, which causes electrons to flow as DC electricity. Inverters convert this DC electricity to AC electricity so it can be used by light fixtures and appliances inside.

Head over to Energy Sage to watch a quick video of this process.
