To verify the effectiveness of the R.W. Kern Center’s ventilation system (and to adhere to the standards of the Living Building Challenge) we’ve tested our building’s indoor air quality (IAQ) three times—once pre-occupancy and two times post-occupancy.
Ensuring a high standard of IAQ is important for the health and comfort of building occupants, and often times it’s not enough to rely on what ventilation equipment says it can do. Our IAQ results informed how we manage the building—from how often we keep our windows open to what cleaning supplies and dry-erase markers we use, and which areas to designate as low-scent.
