All-electric buildings

Two air source heat pump units sit outside the R.W. Kern Center's grey stone exterior. A banner at the bottom of the image includes a simple shape of the R.W. Kern Center and reads: 100 Days of Building Solutions.

Many buildings still rely on fossil fuels to meet their energy demands. Even a building that uses solar panels to generate electricity may still rely on natural gas for heat. One way to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels is to design all-electric buildings. Electric heat pumps (like the air source heat pumps seen above) are an effective alternative to a conventional furnace or boiler.
