The collection is named in memory of Rafael Rojas Hurtado de Mendoza, former Director of the Master Plan from 1998 – 2003, who was the promoter of this important project.  The director of Plan Maestro is Dr. Arq. Patricia Rodríguez Alomá, who fully supported the development of the digital archive as a collaborative project with Hampshire College.

The original 8000 photographic items in Rafael Rojas Hurtado de Mendoza Collection are located in the Historical Photographic Library of the San Geromino College, belonging to the Heritage Subdirection of the Office of the Historian, located in the Santo Domingo Building, Calle Obispo 160 between Calles Mercaderes and San Ignacio, Old Havana, Havana, Cuba.
