Our Team

The Spring 2017 Team, missing Julia, at our end of the semester celebration

Faculty

Rebecca D. Rosenberg, Ph.D.

Director

Dr. Rosenberg received her Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology from Harvard University in 2008, after which she completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Johns Hopkins University Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences. Her research focuses on the cognitive development of infants and toddlers, with an emphasis on the flexibility and limitations of their working memory capacity, and their early reasoning about physical objects and quantities. Dr. Rosenberg is pleased to announce the opening of Hampshire College’s brand new Infant and Child Cognition Lab, and looks forward to working with local families from the Amherst area and greater-Pioneer Valley communities.

Lab Members

Maggie BFullSizeRenderowen
Research Assistant

Hi! My name is Maggie Bowen and I am a senior concentrating in Cognitive Psychology and Education. I am very excited to be working with infant cognition and I hope to gain greater experience with research and with working with children. After Hampshire, I plan to continue on to graduate school for more studies in public education.

Julia Kersten
Research Assistant

My name is Julia Kersten and I am a fourth year at Hampshire College. I am interested in how humans acquire, comprehend and produce language. In my studies, I specifically concentrate on how a visual gestural language, such as American Sign Language, inform our understanding of cognitive development. I am very excited to have a role in the lab and I am very eager to learn more about how intricately infants experience the world!

Maria Flanders
Research Assistant

Hello! I am a senior at Mount Holyoke College, and so excited to be in the Baby Lab! I study psychology with a focus on children and language, and plan to go on to become a clinical child psychologist. I was thrilled to find out about the Baby Lab last year, and to have the opportunity to get lab experience learning and working in a field that is so close to my heart.

Adelle Pitsas
Research Assistant

Hi there! My name is Adelle Pitsas. I am a third year at Hampshire studying Social Psychology. I’m thrilled to be working in the Infant Cognition Lab as the questions the lab explores are important in studying human cognitive processes and behavior. After Hampshire, I hope to attend graduate school and continue doing research.

Miranda Harrison
Research Assistant

I’m Miranda Harrison, a recent Hampshire transfer and Division II student. I study developmental psychobiology through a feminist lens, utilizing comparative models. I am particularly focused on researching the relationships between prenatal hormones, early brain development, sex-specific socialization, and gender identity formation. The opportunity to work in this lab and gain hands-on experience assisting with developmental research is exciting and I am certain it will prove invaluable for my future scientific endeavors throughout and beyond graduate school.

Jacob Prescott
Research Assistant

Hi there! My name is Jacob and I am a senior at Hampshire College studying how music and language overlap in the brain. After Hampshire, I plan to go onto graduate school and study alternatives to traditional treatments for learning differences. I am so grateful and excited to be working in the baby lab and learn about how the mind grows and develops from infancy and work more with children.

Sally Borgatti
Research Assistant

Hi! My name is Sally Borgatti, I am a third semester Division II student and I am studying developmental psychology focusing on memory development. I am so excited to get the opportunity to work in the infant and child cognition lab. After Hampshire I intend to further my developmental psychology and memory studies, and hopefully get my pHd.

Oliver May
Research Assistant

Howdy! My name is Oliver May and I am a second year transfer student at Hampshire College. I am currently studying Health Psychology as well as Infant Cognitive Development and I feel very lucky to have the opportunity of participating in this lab. When my time at Hampshire is done I plan to become a Clinical Psychologist. Also feel free to ask me about hang gliding.

Penelope Harrison
Junior Research Assistant/Honorary Lab Mascot

Woofs and salutations! My name is Penelope Harrison and I’m a junior research assistant and the honorary mascot of the Hampshire College Infant & Child Cognition Lab! I’m a service dog in training, so I’m well prepared for the demands of lab work and cognitive research. When I’m not on the job or conducting empirical research, I spend my time running around with my pals on campus, doing agility training, licking faces, and playing with my toys. After my mom, Miranda, and I graduate from Hampshire, I’m going to help her do even more super neat research in graduate school!

While I love to meet new people (and dogs), I won’t be around while families are present in the lab. Some folks have allergies or aren’t too comfortable around pups, and I want everyone to feel at ease when they come in. Maintaining the comfort of our participants is of the utmost priority!
