Can you treat your own drinking water? Yes! UV light can be used as primary or additional treatment for on-site water systems in homes and buildings.
To be safe to drink, most water must be treated to rid it of contaminants and potentially harmful microorganisms. UV light inactivates bacteria, viruses, and protozoa through radiation (like sunlight). In conjunction with physical filters, which help maker the water clear enough for the light to penetrate, UV can treat most water sources.
