Smart tech at the RWKC

A view looking up at the windows on the south side of the R.W. Kern Center. A weather station and retracted shades are highlighted in the photo. A banner at the bottom of the image includes a simple shape of the R.W. Kern Center and reads: 100 Days of Building Solutions.

If you’ve had a chance to visit the R.W. Kern Center, you may have noticed the shades on the outside of our building. These shades were designed to control the amount of solar heat and direct light that enters through the windows. The shades are controlled by a weather station on our roof that measures the wind and the angle of the sun. The shades retract if the sun moves behind a cloud, sets, or if it’s too windy out. This smart building technology provides comfort and convenience for RWKC occupants, and it’s always possible to override the shades manually, if necessary.
