How do HVAC filters work?

An important part of any heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system is filtration.

HVAC filters are strategically located near the intake of air and can catch dust, dirt, pollen, mold spores, and other contaminants. These mechanical air filters are usually made of fiberglass or pleated paper or cloth. And while adequate ventilation strategies are usually enough to prevent the buildup of gaseous contaminants, such as carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide, air filters made with activated carbon are effective at removing odors and VOCs from air.
