Blair McLaughlin’s Soundscapes course provides students with opportunities to explore the interface between sound, music, and ecology. As part of the course, students will explore, record, and process the sounds of the R.W. Kern Center. This opportunity to record environmental sounds is particularly important for students given that recording opportunities of outside ecological systems are more limited during the spring semester. Students are given the option to follow up with their initial recordings and complete a final project on RWKC soundscapes; final projects may include compilations of field recordings, compositions, or sound art installations. Keep and eye out for these finished works on our website!
