Do you know the story of the founding of the Yiddish Book Center right on Hampshire’s Campus?\u00a0 \u00a0 Aaron Lansky, Hampshire alum, was just 24 years old when he founded the Yiddish Book Center. From their web site:\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n

“In the course of his studies, Lansky realized that untold numbers of irreplaceable Yiddish books\u2014the primary, tangible legacy of a thousand years of Jewish life in Eastern Europe\u2014were being discarded by American-born Jews unable to read the language of their Yiddish-speaking parents and grandparents. So he organized a nationwide network of\u00a0zamlers<\/em> (volunteer book collectors) and launched a concerted campaign to save the world\u2019s remaining Yiddish books before it was too late.”<\/p>\n

And now, there’s a new children’s book about Lansky called “The Book Rescuer” by Sue Macy with illustrations by Stacy Innerst.\u00a0 \u00a0You can check out this book from Hampshire’s Library :<\/p>\n\n\n\n
