{"id":244,"date":"2014-12-23T18:16:51","date_gmt":"2014-12-23T18:16:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sites.hampshire.edu\/llc\/?p=244"},"modified":"2014-12-23T18:16:51","modified_gmt":"2014-12-23T18:16:51","slug":"dec-18-2014-minutes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.hampshire.edu\/theharold\/2014\/12\/23\/dec-18-2014-minutes\/","title":{"rendered":"Dec. 18, 2014 Minutes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #333333\">Present: Jennifer King, Anne Downes, Marjorie Hutter, Bob Crowley, Jason Tor, Carla Costa, Jeff Wallen, Ira Fay (by phone, and then suddenly, in person!), Alana Kumbier (notes)<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333\">Planning for kickoff call with Brightspot:<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #333333\"> Identifying partners &#8211; draw from LLC Proposal<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #333333\"> Service workshop<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #333333\"> Determine which partners will be engaged in Feb\/March service workshops &#8212; two 2-3 hours workshops:<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #333333\"> Service models<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #333333\"> Service points and adjacencies<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #333333\"> Student engagement planning &#8211; we have Hampshire Student Union &amp; Rehamping students on the committee, will need to do a focus group with students at different Div levels in the spring<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #333333\"> We should return to their earlier library survey to see what they learned, proposed &#8211; it was pulled up for the APL project.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333\">Open questions right now:<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #333333\"> Bookstore issue &#8211; we thought the entire Hampstore was moving to Kern Ctr, but according to Carl, the convenience store part of the operation may not move.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #333333\"> Multisport complex plan needs to be figured out before we know about what can happen with Duplications<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #333333\"> VPFA position open until the end of spring semester<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333\">Space vs. Service distinction:<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #333333\"> Space: Learning Commons + organizations &#8211; may be sharing space in the LLC, but services wouldn\u2019t necessarily be integrated<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #333333\"> Service: Brightspot is involved in the service model of the library (i.e., who is partnering with librarians)<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #333333\"> Services programming vs. other kinds of programming in the space<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #333333\"> Community-engaged learning is a critical part of the curriculum<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #333333\"> Academic services support the curriculum but don\u2019t create new educative communities<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333\">Core operations &#8211; core supports\/services we know we need &#8212; how do we innovate around core services? Delivering more research services (in new ways) through partnering with campus centers\/programs. This can be integral to fostering innovation. Developing &amp; expanding new models of service. Peer-to-peer education.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333\">Related reading: Kelly Miller\u2019s article about Powell Library\u2019s 7 Types of Innovation:<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #333333\"> http:\/\/muse.jhu.edu.proxy2.hampshire.edu\/journals\/portal_libraries_and_the_academy\/v014\/14.3.miller.html<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333\">Breakthroughs we\u2019ve had on campus:<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #333333\"> Library has control of the APL, HSU has turned over their master meeting room to library\/student use<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #333333\"> Academic Affairs Strategic Priority Managers meeting &#8211; Discussion of A1 (revitalize &amp; simplify the curriculum, Div I tutorials) &#8211; idea of piloting a 2-semester Div I class, co-taught by 2 faculty &#8211; faculty member has a course topic, then connects with the library which would coordinate the support components (research librarian, archivist, instructional technologist, media, quantitative, qualitative, speech, writing support, makerspace, gaming). We might be able to pilot that process in the fall.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #333333\"> Pilot for modeling one-stop shopping, not involving the professor having to do logistics<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #333333\"> How does this increase navigability for students?<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #333333\"> What is the role of this support in the tutorial?
