You will find a plastic bottle in <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW250936415 BCX4\">pretty much every<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW250936415 BCX4\"> trash can <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW250936415 BCX4\">or<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW250936415 BCX4\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"TextRun SCXW250936415 BCX4\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"none\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW250936415 BCX4\">recycling bi<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW250936415 BCX4\">n on campus. <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW250936415 BCX4\">\u201cMatter <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW250936415 BCX4\">o<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW250936415 BCX4\">ut of <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW250936415 BCX4\">p<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW250936415 BCX4\">lace\u201d is how Mary Douglas <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW250936415 BCX4\">defines dirt, in this case a plastic bottle would qualify. When it was full it was matter in the correct place but by the time it was empty it became out of place because it <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW250936415 BCX4\">can no longer be used for its intended purpose. <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW250936415 BCX4\">\u201cUse\u201d or \u201cpotential\u201d<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW250936415 BCX4\"> is a better way of disting<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW250936415 BCX4\">u<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW250936415 BCX4\">ish<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW250936415 BCX4\">ing<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW250936415 BCX4\"> what is dirty and <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW250936415 BCX4\">what is not. <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW250936415 BCX4\">That concept would also allow the <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW250936415 BCX4\">ideas of dirty and clean to fluctuate and change based on perspective. When it comes to a plastic bottle it could be<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW250936415 BCX4\"> considered dirty or waste when you finish your drink but you could also wash it and use it again which would prevent it from being waste, or you could recycle it and it<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW250936415 BCX4\"> could become something new which would prevent it from becoming waste, or it could be tightly packed full of plastic and become an <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW250936415 BCX4\">eco-brick<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW250936415 BCX4\"> to build a home and prevent<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW250936415 BCX4\"> even more waste.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"EOP SCXW250936415 BCX4\" data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A plastic bottle of soda that has been drunk is considered waste.
