Because teachers and students need
An alternative approach to population education from a multicultural, gendered and social justice perspective
Opportunities for critical thinking and dialogue on the relationship between people and the environment
Broad and deep understandings of the world that foster a sense of global citizenship
Population in Perspective offers an intelligent alternative to the outdated population lessons in many US textbooks. These textbooks tell you that overpopulation is one of the major causes, if not the major cause, of hunger, poverty, environmental degradation, migration and even political instability.
There are many reasons why this conventional wisdom is unwise. At an international policy level, the conventional “overpopulation” wisdom no longer holds much sway, replaced instead by a more comprehensive view of population and environment dynamics. Bring yourself and your students up-to-date.
