Q&A WITH JONATHON KEATS

Conceptual artist and experimental philosopher Jonathon Keats is known for turning big ¬†questions and provocative thought experiments into compelling exhibitions that in turn ask viewers to reconsider their own assumptions: Can we genetically engineer God in a laboratory? How would you choreograph a ballet for honeybees? What would a “welcome mat” for extraterrestrial beings look like?

In this lunchtime Q&A, Gallery Director Amy Halliday will ask Keats about his unusual working process, how to succeed in the contemporary art market when ideas are your stock-in-trade, why he’s currently collaborating with plasmodial slime mold at Hampshire College, and open the floor to students, faculty and other visitors to propose their own thought experiments.
