S. Billie Mandle, assistant professor of photography, received her BA in biology from Williams College and an MFA from Massachusetts College of Art and Design. She is the recipient of a Whiting Fellowship, an Individual Artist Grant from the Brooklyn Arts Council, and an Artist Fellowship in Photography from the New York Foundation for the Arts. Her photographs are widely exhibited and published, including features in Aperture, Cabinet and Mossless. Photographs from her series Reconciliation were selected for the 25th Hyères Photography Festival and her work was nominated for the Prix Pictet and the Paul Huf award. She was previously a visiting assistant professor at Mass Art and faculty at the International Center of Photography in New York.
Mandle’s work looks at subjectivity and the built environment; recent projects have explored church confessionals, a poet’s bedroom and hospital corridors.
