It’s finals week at Hampshire and you still have three research papers to finish. You’re tired of writing alone in your room. You want a change of atmosphere. Fortunately, the Hampshire campus has many quiet spaces where you can sit down and get your work done.
Here are seven places on the Hampshire campus where students can study:
The Library
The Harold F. Johnson Library, located at the center of campus, provides numerous study spaces. The first floor has couches, tables, and computers for student use. The InfoBar is also on the first floor, where students can get help with finding research topics and materials and checking out or renewing books. The brand new Robert Seydel Reading Room, located on the second floor, is yet another space in the library where students can work.
The Bridge Café
The Bridge Café is named after its location — the bridge between the Harold F. Johnson Library and the Robert Crown Center. It is open to the public, and serves breakfast, lunch, dinner, coffee, and many other food and drink options. Tables and chairs line the walls of the café, and there are plenty of places for students to sit.
The Airport Lounge
For students who work late into the night, the student-designed Airport Lounge is an ideal study environment. It has enough room for 40 people, desktop computers, outlets, wireless Internet access, a printer, and free coffee and tea service from 11 p.m. to 8 a.m. Its comfortable and bright atmosphere is perfect for students who need to stay up late to complete assignments.
Living Rooms
Dakin House and Merrill House, two dormitory buildings on campus, each have their own living room. The living rooms are large spaces with couches, chairs, bookcases, and televisions. Students can reserve the living rooms for gatherings and events, but most of the time they are free for student use and can provide a comfortable studying environment.
House Offices
Similar to the dormitories’ living rooms, the mod areas have house offices where students can work — the Prescott House Office and the Greenwich-Enfield House Office. Both have a kitchen area as well as an area with couches and chairs. The house interns sometimes hold study nights, where there is food, coffee, and tea.
Prescott Tavern
Prescott Tavern is both a recreational and study space. Coffee, tea, cocoa, and snacks are available for purchase, and there are tables, chairs, and couches where students can sit and work. Students can also reserve the space for events such as open mics, readings, and concerts.
Other Places to Study
There are other spaces around campus where students can study, such as the Center for Feminisms, Wellness Center, Queer Community Alliance Center, and Spiritual Life Center. These spaces are accessible to students and have comfortable seating areas. They are sometimes reserved for student group meetings, but as long as they are free, they are available for student use.
