As Hampshire students, we’re never alone in our endeavors throughout our years on campus. With more than 40 different offices to aid us in our interests, passions, problems, and questions, it’s easy to feel comforted by the level of support all around us.
Walking up to the third floor of the Johnson Library, you’ll find the Career and Options Resource Center (CORC), with a warmly welcoming atmosphere complete with tea and comfy couches, and a plethora of resources and kind people to help guide you in career and internship opportunities.
Dedicated to “translating academic studies to the world of work,” CORC is available to students at any level – whether just entering or even having graduated years ago – to provide life and career counseling. “Our students are just so fun,” said Carin Rank, the director of the center. “There’s such a range of interests and passions. It’s so wonderful to be able to work with them on their journeys.”
The cheerful staff can help perfect the resume and cover letter; connect alums, employers, and representatives of graduate programs with students; help find funding for projects through grant writing; and simply be a resource of advice and support.
“We want people to make the connection between the work we do in our office, helping people find and apply for opportunities, and the resulting engagement in the community,” said Sharón Fielder, the assistant director. Their internship database, open to all Hampshire students, also holds thousands of local, national, and worldwide internships and jobs that we can choose from.
Last week, CORC unveiled their second annual public gallery, a “celebration of moments” within internships that Hampshire students completed this past summer. The show was called Engage, and was centered on Hampshire’s motto of “to know is not enough,” highlighting students’ outside work and dedication to making a difference.
There were seven students selected for the gallery, all bringing a variety of experiences: film and photography, human rights work, medical and neuroscience internships, solar design, childcare, and climate organizing – an attestation of the multifaceted academic interests at Hampshire.
As a student, it’s comforting to know there is such a helpful resource available anytime I need help with a summer internship and when I begin to apply to graduate school. Migrate your way up to the third floor, my friends, and see the opportunities that could await you!
Some upcoming events at CORC include an info session on using LinkedIn for networking, career and internship fairs, and alum visits.
