Each year, ECG awards grants to Hampshire College students developing projects, research, and internships that align with the mission and goals of the Ethics and the Common Good Project.

The Common Good Project Grant program particularly aims to support community-engaged learning experiences that contribute to or critically engage with issues regarding the common good and ethical inquiry. Through their ECG-funded work, students cultivate and collaborate on visions and practices rooted in concern for cultural, artistic, scientific, and ecological flourishing as they contribute to and build up the common good.

This year, ECG awarded a total of $5,825 to 14 students engaging in a wide range of transdisciplinary research interests, primarily supporting Division III students to complete their multifaceted and complex project goals. Grant funded projects include community building initiatives aimed to support peer-to-peer connections through art and dialogue during a pandemic year, an experimental documentary film about Baltimore’s “Highway to Nowhere”, an exploration of industry entry barriers for Black fashion entrepreneurs, and a new permanent campus mural at Dakin House collaboratively designed to inspire courage and compassion, among an array of other community-engaged academic projects.

2020-2021 Common Good Project Grant Awards

Ashley Burns-Merrill | Division III Grant
The Hunger Hut: A Mini Food/Resource Pantry

Connor Honey B.
