My name is Cassidy Walker. I’m a first-year student at Hampshire College in Amherst, Massachusetts. I am hoping to focus my studies on writing and literature, but I’m also interested in education and American Sign Language.
Annaïs Hurstel is a 21-year-old woman from Strasbourg, France. She is in her fourth year of medical school. During the pandemic, she worked as a nurse’s assistant at a hospital in Obernai, France. She took care of COVID-19 patients. Annaïs worked at the hospital from late March until early May.
Reflection: My interview with Annaïs went well. She seemed a bit nervous and I was, as well. I suppose that’s par for the course with someone’s first interview. Also, we hadn’t talked in a couple years before this, so that didn’t help. But I was really interested in what she was saying, and she seemed glad to talk about it, so I think that came through. While transcribing the interview, I realized that many of my questions were redundant. I learned that no matter how much I prepare, I’m going to be nervous and things won’t go exactly how I expect them to…but they’ll still be fine in the end.
