Orner, Ashton

Ashton Orner is a 19-year old, first-year student at Hampshire College. He is currently studying dance, ethnomusicology, and writing through an intersectional lens. He is from Brookville, PA. Ashton chose to interview Sarah Graziano because he believes it is important to present diverse views about the pandemic and allow all voices to be heard.

Sarah Graziano is an aspiring herbalist and farmworker. She considers herself a “child of nature” and a “student of life.” Sarah is from Easton, PA. She was interning at Quiet Creek Herb Farm during the time of the interview.

Reflection: This was the first lengthy interview I have ever conducted and, overall, I truly enjoyed the process. There were awkward moments but I took them joyously as I know that practice will only help me develop stronger interviewing skills. I enjoyed talking to Sarah because she had so many wild and interesting ideas. I was able to hear her out while remaining neutral. I value her words and experience. I learned that there are so many ideas floating around out there and I think it is so important and special to be able to capture a part of human experience through an interview. I learned about journalism as well and how to be professional and neutral. I am excited to share this interview with generations to come.
