Carolina Lopez: I was born and raised in Puebla, Mexico. Approximately three years ago, I moved to Bronx, NY. I am currently a freshman at Hampshire College and part of the James Baldwin Program. I really like art and I am good at painting. I am interested in studying something related to technology.
Monica Lopez: My cousin, Monica, was born and currently lives in Puebla, Mexico. She is 20 years old and was born on April 30, 2000. She is a student with a technical career in styling. During the pandemic, my cousin experienced several deaths in her family, one of whom died from COVID-19. During our interview, Monica details how difficult it was for her to deal with the aforementioned.
Reflection: During the entire interview with my cousin, I realized many things and I managed to have greater communication with her. One of the things that I found is that things were not as I imagined them: I am surprised how the funerals of our relatives take place and how the pandemic affects this process. I realized that during the interview, my cousin exerted a lot so that I could gather all the information that I needed. And, I also noticed that she did her best to make this interview go well, which I appreciate much. Also, I realize the honorable work that journalism does. Because based on my experience, I can say that it is not easy, since you do not take into account the understandings of the person you are interviewing. And when they show their feelings, you don’t know how to react or what to say. I found this interview very educational.
