{"id":421,"date":"2013-12-11T16:22:40","date_gmt":"2013-12-11T21:22:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sites.hampshire.edu\/ci-lab\/?p=421"},"modified":"2013-12-11T16:22:40","modified_gmt":"2013-12-11T21:22:40","slug":"11-december-2013","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.hampshire.edu\/ci-lab\/2013\/12\/11\/11-december-2013\/","title":{"rendered":"11 December 2013"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Present<\/h2>\n<p>Lee, Tom, Frode, Kwaku, Karthik, Eddie, Omri (scribe)<\/p>\n<h2>Reminders<\/h2>\n<p>Lee: send out a CI Lab email about <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/zekenie\/GPJS\">Zeke&#8217;s webgp thing<\/a><\/p>\n<p>GECCO deadlines: Jan. 15th for abstracts, 29th for papers, and they seem very serious about sticking to these deadlines<\/p>\n<h2>Administrative stuff<\/h2>\n<p>There will probably be a meeting next Wednesday, regular time, last of the semester<\/p>\n<h2>Proposed Clojush changes<\/h2>\n<p>All <strong>println<\/strong> calls to <strong>prn<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Option to report percent of parens in a given program or population<\/p>\n<p>Separate out &#8220;report-best&#8221;, so that it can be independent from &#8220;fitness&#8221;<\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/erp12\/pysh\">Pysh<\/a><\/h2>\n<p>It works (yay!)<\/p>\n<p>Some of the syntax is different<\/p>\n<p>Next steps are to include tags and\/or any kind of genetic programming functionality<\/p>\n<p>Lee recommends aiming to make it usable for next semester&#8217;s Genetic Programming students<\/p>\n<h2>Clojush documentation<\/h2>\n<p>Frode has been working on this, with a lot of good documentation and tutorials that can be seen in the <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/lspector\/Clojush\/wiki\">Clojush wiki<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Lee is unsure where we should go from here: where to host documentation and tutorials of Clojush and\/or of Push in general<\/p>\n<h2>Evolving GUIs and &#8220;reactive&#8221; Push REPL<\/h2>\n<p>Frode has been thinking about doing experiments related to both of these<\/p>\n<p>Lee pointed out that these are separable projects, and that one possible off-shoot is to look into some Excel\/Clojush integration<\/p>\n<h2>Parameter tweaking in evolutionary runs<\/h2>\n<p>Bill has been trying to solve a harmonic oscillation problem<\/p>\n<p>He has a number of interesting non-standard genetic operators that he&#8217;s been working with, and is having difficulty knowing\/finding the right parameters<\/p>\n<p>Lee suggested taking a step back and trying more standard genetic operators, and also just &#8220;seeing what works&#8221;<\/p>\n<h2>Modules<\/h2>\n<p>Karthik would like to do some experiments here, possibly related to the calculator problem<\/p>\n<p>Lee described a lot of recent efforts around automatic modularity, and the various issues surrounding modularity in general<\/p>\n<p>Kwaku has been working on identifying modularity at run-time, hoping to find good metrics for modularity in arbitrary programs (which reminds Lee of some old experiments testing the &#8220;compressibility&#8221;
