Celebration of the Robert Seydel Reading Room on Sept 12

Save Sept. 12 for the grand opening of the Robert Seydel Reading Room!

13157 HCL RSeydel_LRThe Harold Johnson Library invites you to the grand opening of the Robert Seydel Reading Room. Come celebrate the life and interests of Robert Seydel, former faculty member in the Film, Photo, and Video Program as we inaugurate a unique environment to use and peruse his extraordinary library of books.

This event will take place on the 12th of September 2014 from 4-6pm. The Robert Seydel Reading Room is on the second floor of the Harold F. Johnson Library at Hampshire College.

An exhibition devoted to the extraordinary variety of Seydel’s art and his impact on his students will be on display in the Main Gallery on the ground floor of the Library and on the Library’s Magic Board during the month of September.

    It looks incredible! One question: will the balcony attached finally be useable? That would be icing on the cake…

      Dear Sal,
      We are working on this! There are some code issues with the balcony that we want to address when the campus renovates the library to establish a Learning Commons. We also have to be careful about opening the glass doors thanks to our need to control both temperature and humidity for the collections. But, it’s a lovely spot and when you come visit the new reading room, you’ll see that it is an important feature in the renovated space. Thanks for your comment! -Jennifer King
