EssenceofTruth

This vlog (video blog), by EssenceOfTruth, a humanist and atheist, attempts to debunk a specific ijaz (miracle) concept in the Qurʾān, the mixing of salt and fresh waters.  He presents the hydrological cycle and estuaries at the meeting of fresh-water rivers and salt-water seas.

EssenceOfTruth’s vlog often addresses constructions of science in Islam and engages popular Muslim proselytizers.

Evaluation:

The representations here of Islam is not within the bounds of what Muslims have historically understood as acceptable.  The video’s narrator suggests that Islam is a sort of monolithic power, which is not accurate.  Muslims are very diverse.

There are various verses in the Quran that are interpreted as mentioning waters mixing or having boundaries between them.  The various densities of sea water solutions has been well known since the ancient Greeks.  The discussion presented here about estuaries where salt and fresh water mix are one example.

There is insufficient historical material on which to base an evaluation.
