The Creative Labs fall on the 2nd and 4th weeks of the CMI. During the Creative Labs, students follow separate paths based on the medium (moving or still image) and mode of expression (Nonfiction or Fiction). Students attend workshops in the morning and head out into the field during the afternoon. The Labs provide a safe space to experiment with approach, style, and practice. Only participants attending all four weeks of the program can take part in Creative Labs. Here are the different tracks:
During the 1st lab, video participants split into shooting teams, are assigned different characters and situations every other day and must write and shoot scenes based on the assignments.
During the 1st lab, video participants split into shooting teams, are assigned local subjects to research and document. During the 2nd Lab, each participant working in video edit a roughcut using footage shot during the 1st lab.
During the 1st lab, photography participants will learn how to work with Tintype and other analog processes, then create new works under the mentorship of a visiting artist. During the the 2nd lab, photography participants will work with polaroid and other analog processes under the mentor and guidance of a different visiting artist.
Featured visiting artists for the 2015 CMI Labs will be announced in early Spring 2015.
