Q&A WITH JONATHON KEATS

Conceptual artist and experimental philosopher Jonathon Keats is known for turning big  questions and provocative thought experiments into compelling exhibitions that in turn ask viewers to reconsider their own assumptions: Can we genetically engineer God in a laboratory? How would you choreograph a ballet for honeybees? What would a “welcome mat” for extraterrestrial beings look like?

In this lunchtime Q&A, Gallery Director Amy Halliday will ask Keats about his unusual working process, how to succeed in the contemporary art market when ideas are your stock-in-trade, why he’s currently collaborating with plasmodial slime mold at Hampshire College, and open the floor to students, faculty and other visitors to propose their own thought experiments.
