Summer Academic Programs

Submitted by on January 22, 2013 – 8:58 amNo Comment

I am delighted to inform you that Hampshire is now offering a variety of summer academic programs intended to provide students with opportunities for an intensive experience in fields that reflect our leadership in food, agriculture and sustainability, creativity, entrepreneurship and social change, and world language learning. All of our programs are designed to reflect Hampshire’s unique academic philosophy by pairing critical engagement with experience-based education, an approach that gives students from across the country a comprehensive understanding of the issues explored.

It is my pleasure to introduce the three programs we’ve developed for Summer 2013:

Food, Farm, and Sustainability Institute
Now in its second year, the Food, Farm, and Sustainability Institute at Hampshire College is an interdisciplinary academic program focusing on food production and sustainable agriculture, centered at the vibrant Hampshire College Farm Center.

Design and Innovation for Social Change
Recognizing that today the majority of the world’s designers, entrepreneurs, and artists work for a minority of the planet’s population, the Design and Innovation for Social Change summer program aims to balance this inequality by focusing students on art, design, technology, and innovation for social change.

Hampshire College TESOL Certificate Course
The only of its kind in the Five Colleges “Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages” (TESOL), Hampshire provides a critical approach to language and teaching that will not only equip participants with tools for their own growth as teaching professionals but provide a solid foundation for language acquisition studies.

Please visit for more information including tuition, fees, and application requirements for each program. All applications are due March 1, 2013. We encourage you to forward this information to anyone you think might be interested in this unique educational opportunity at Hampshire.

Warm regards,
Eva Rueschmann
