Opening Day – What to Expect

Submitted by on August 24, 2011 – 4:40 pm2 Comments

With one week until new students arrive, the campus staff are busy getting ready to welcome them on Opening Day, September 1, 2011. We hope that this brief photo-narrative will help you plan for the day.

Plan to arrive between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. at Hampshire.

You will be directed to park near the Robert Crown Center (RCC).

Students and families check-in (9 a.m. - 1 p.m.). At the registration table students will receive orientation materials and keys to their room, and families will receive a green welcome bag with the Opening Day Schedule and Family Guide.Hint: To speed up this process, make sure any outstanding health or financial forms are completed.

After you check in, you can start to move in.Hint: Missing something essential? Planning time to shop? Local stores will be very busy, so make sure you give yourself enough time to return before students meet with orientation groups at 3:30 p.m.

Take a break from moving and enjoy the complimentary Picnic Lunch on the lawn from noon to 1:30 p.m.

In the afternoon, students and families are invited to optional panel discussions (The Academic Program at 1:30 and Life Outside the Classroom at 2:30).

At 3:30 p.m., students meet their Orientation Groups and families can attend a panel on Health and Safety or take a campus tour.

At 4:30 p.m. everyone meets up under the tent for the official Welcome Ceremony.

After the Welcome Ceremony, get to know orientation groups and new friends during an outdoor dinner. This is a complimentary meal before families leave campus for the evening. (Families are encouraged to leave by 7:15 p.m., as residential students have a mandatory 7:30 p.m. meeting.)
